“THE OKANAGAN AND WEST KELOWNA: A CALL TO ACTION FOR ENERGY SECURITY AND RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT”

By Macklin McCall BC Conservative Candidate for West Kelowna – Peachland Riding

West Kelowna, BC — In the heart of the picturesque Okanagan Valley, the issues facing our community demand immediate attention. As the BC Conservative Candidate for the West Kelowna – Peachland riding, I am compelled to address two crucial matters: the natural gas pipeline issue and the vulnerability stemming from the reliance on a single hydro line servicing West Kelowna.

The current difficulties associated with the natural gas pipeline highlight the critical need to take into account the distinct requirements of the Okanagan Valley and West Kelowna communities. The decision by CleanBC to not approve the expansion of the natural gas pipeline beyond 2030, along with the exclusion of natural gas heating in homes, is a misjudgment that warrants careful reconsideration.

The economic and environmental benefits of responsible natural gas development cannot be overstated, especially when tailored to the specific requirements of our region. This situation serves as a clear example of why the CleanBC policy’s approach is fundamentally flawed.

Equally pressing is the vulnerability posed by a single hydro line servicing West Kelowna. This not only jeopardizes our energy security but also compromises public safety. As part of my commitment to the community, I will strongly advocate for the construction of a second hydro line to service West Kelowna – Peachland. This is a matter of public safety, and a more resilient energy infrastructure is urgently needed to prevent disruptions and ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.

As the BC Conservative Candidate, I advocate for a balanced approach that prioritizes the needs of our communities in West Kelowna – Peachland. We must reconsider the CleanBC policy, recognize the importance of responsible energy development, and ensure a secure and prosperous future for our region.

In line with this commitment, the BC Conservatives pledge to expand natural gas initiatives and generate more electricity. This strategic move aims to bring back energy self sufficiency in BC, ensuring a resilient and reliable energy supply for our communities.

I call upon our residents to consider these urgent matters when casting their votes. By supporting a candidate who understands the unique challenges we face, we can collectively work towards safeguarding our community and promoting responsible
energy development.
